Algebra 7th & 8th Grade Course Syllabus

            The objective for this course is to continue building a strong math foundation by learning the 7th or 8th Math Standards. As, your teacher I will facilitate the development of your math and social skills by supporting and expecting advance and proficient practice and performance from each of you. A priority emphasis will be given to instructional strategies promoting thinking maps and graphic organizers.  I will accommodate diverse students by creating instruction and activities that are culturally relevant and providing a variety of student support by allowing pair share, collaborate learning, hands on activities and rich based learning practices. I look forward to a fun, safe and wonderful learning environment this 2016-2017 year.

Student Expectations & Grading:

 

Attendance: A 100% attendance rate is expected and early arrival to class, unless a true emergency. This will be part of the cooperation part of your grade.

 

Warm Up: There will be a warm up everyday on the board and students are expected to complete it after writing the objective and homework of the day. Students are allowed to pair share during warm up. This will be part of work habits of your grade.

 

Instruction: Students are expected to collaborate during instruction by copying all notes, asking and answering questions during this part of the class. This will contribute to the work habits part of your grade.

 

Classwork: Cooperative learning is expected during this part of the course. Students are expected to work in pairs, groups of 3 or 4 during classwork to provide support to one another. Teacher will make groups to accommodate the needs of all students. This will be part of your cooperation and work habits part of your grade.

 

Projects/Presentations: These will vary during the course of the year. All students are expected to perform for the growth and the development of their math and social skills. This will contribute to the students work habits and cooperation part of their grade: 20-50 pts.

 

Homework: Homework will be given everyday to assure student practice and continue growth and strength on math content. 10 pts.

 

Quizzes: Quizzes will be given depending on content taking place for learning. 20-50 pts.

 

Tests: Students will take a test after each standard is taught. Students are expected to make up tests if absent. 50-100 pts.

 

Notebook/Work Collection: Students are expected to save ALL work for this class. Random notebook checks will occur and it will be collected to check warm ups, notes, classwork and all other work returned to them. Students are expected to write in pencil, be neat and stay organized. 20 pts.

 

Participation: Participation from every student is expected in all aspects. 30 pts.
